Upgrades: Do I Have to Upgrade?
Upgrades are required at least once every three (3) years if your business is connected to any QuickBooks® add-on services. Examples of these QuickBooks® add-on solutions are:
- QuickBooks® Payroll Service
- QuickBooks® Merchant Services/credit card processing
- Online banking
- Bill pay
Intuit supports the current and two prior years’ versions of QuickBooks®. In most cases, the “sunset” of an older version happens at the end of May. For example, support for QuickBooks® 2016 will end at the end of May 2019 (and support for anything older than QuickBooks® 2015 has already expired).
Upgrades: Can I upgrade myself?
Of course you can. The upgrade process is well-defined, and can be navigated relatively easily.
If however, you have multiple networks funneling into your QuickBooks® software (such as QuickBooks® Point of Sale, Merchant Services), or if you have QuickBooks® running on several computers, it is recommended you have an IT professional take care of the upgrade or installation for you. If an issue arises, it can be addressed on the spot to minimize any business downtime.
